What is my street profile and how is it defined?

What is the purpose of the street profile?

As the name suggests, the purpose of the "Street Profile" section is to define the configuration of your street, which will then allow you to compare your street's data with other streets having a similar profile. To define the street profile, you need to go to your Dashboard and then click on "Street Profile". There you will be able to fill in the questionnaire about your street. The answers that you have given in this section will also appear on the public page of your street.

Define the profile of the street

1. What does your street look like?

First, you need to define what your street looks like by answering a few simple questions in a multiple choice questionnaire.

• "How wide is the road, from kerb to kerb?" (in meters):

• "Is there a division into lanes with white markings?"

Example "No separate lanes":

Example "One lane in both directions with white markings":

• "Is there infrastructure for cyclists?"

Example "Bicycle lane without physical barrier":

Example "Bicycle lane with physical barrier":

• "Width footpath including kerb" (in meters)

• "Is there a medium strip available?"

Examples "The central reservation is a physical barrier, pedestrians cannot cross":

Example "There is a central reservation where crossing pedestrians can wait to cross":

• "Is it a one-way-street?"

At the end of this first questionnaire, you will see, at the top of the page, the profile of your street as you have described it (here: 2 sidewalks of 1.5 m, a bicycle path, a central berm, two traffic lanes).

Now click on "Next" (at the bottom of the screen) to continue.

2. Facilities and information about the road layout

Here you give additional information about the possible passage of buses, the reason why people use the road (the function of the road), the parking possibilities and the speed limit in your street.

• "Is there a bus line in this street?"

• "Is there a parking lane or possibility to park?"

Examples "No parking lane or possibility available": 

Examples "Parking lane or parking possibility present on both sides of the street". Three different configurations (marked, angled parking on one side of the street, unmarked)

Examples: "Parking lane on one side of the street or alternate parking":

• "Which description fits best for the function that fills your street?" 

• "Maximum permitted speed"

Now click on next to continue.

3. Experience

Finally, we will ask you now about your personal perception of your street (in relation to traffic problems, safety, habitability...).

• "According to you, what percentage of congestion is there in your street?"

• "How safe do you think is your street?"

• "How do you rate the quality of life in your street?"

• "Do you have additional remarks about your street?"

If you have additional comments about your street profile, you can add them here (e.g. "My Telraam is located on a curve", or "There is a steep slope in my street").

You can now confirm your data and your street profile is now complete!
